Nothing says community like a local market!
Sydney has some surprisingly good markets outside of the perennial favourites like the Paddington Markets and Paddy’s Market in inner city Chinatown.
If the wish list for your dream home includes shopping from local produce and artists, add these cool neighbourhood markets to your map:
Open every Saturday and Sunday between 9 and 4, the Rozelle Markets pitch themselves as “Sydney’s favourite market for antiques, collectibles and 2nd hand goods”. There are also plenty of international food stalls to ensure you don’t get hungry while browsing for a bargain.
Marrickville’s Sunday markets are all about organic food and local produce. Take your pick from any number of multicultural delicacies and wander around the many gift and craft stalls.
Held every Saturday, the Glebe markets showcase creations by craft, fashion and jewellery designers from near and far. Come for all things vintage and retro, enjoy the live music and hang out afterwards at one of Glebe’s many hip cafes or pubs.
Civic Park in North Sydney hosts popular markets on the second Saturday of every month. You can expect to find fashion, jewellery and handmade artisan products. The market is kid friendly, with lots of activities as well as kids clothes and toys for sale.
Get to the Kirribilli markets early to make sure you find a parking space – they can get very busy! The markets feature over 200 stalls of new and recycled fashion and accessories from emerging local designers. There’s local produce, plants, international food stalls and live music. Check the website for dates.
Officially known as ‘The Beaches Market’, these are held every Friday from 8am till 1pm. Locals in the know show up for farm fresh produce, including organic and conventional fruit and veg, meat direct from the farm, dairy products and tasty cakes.
Just one more reason to love Manly Beach! These open air markets are held in Manly every Saturday from 10am – 5pm, with an eclectic mix of cool fashion and gift stalls.
Organic markets full of delicious produce can be found every Saturday morning at Manly West Public School. The stallholders sell pure, wholesome foods produced using environmentally sustainable methods.
Forestville Organic Markets
One of the most popular and long-running markets north of the bridge, the Frenchs Forest Organic Food Markets are on every Sunday from 8am to 1pm. Held in the carpark of the Parkway Hotel on Frenchs Forest Way East, these family friendly markets are a hub of community, farm-to-market produce and great alternative to pushing a trolley around the supermarket for the weekly grocery shop.
