Sydney’s Family Friendly Suburbs

The beauty of Sydney is that there is a suburb suitable for every stage of life and every lifestyle – from trendy urban dwellers to nature inspired lifestyles and multi-care retirement living. But while the bulk of suburbs in the greater Sydney area all offer something for growing families, there are some that are more sought after than others given that they tick the essential boxes for family life.

Family friendly features:

  • Low crime rates – becoming a parent will turn you into Safety Sam faster than you can say “stranger danger”
  • Education – proximity to good schools
  • Medical – access to medical facilities is also a necessity during the baby/toddler and school years
  • Healthy lifestyle – gardens, parks and beaches also play a large part in what determines a good ‘family suburb’
  • Work – and because these suburbs don’t come with modest price tags, a reasonable commute to the City or other business centres is also important.

Three suburbs that tick all the boxes:

Mosman
Mosman has it all. Proximity to both surf and harbour beaches, access to more of Sydney’s top schools than almost any other suburb, as well as being in the catchment for some of Sydney’s most highly regarded public schools. If you settle in Mosman at any stage of ‘family’ you are within a stones throw from both North Shore Private and Royal North Shore Hospital. Many properties in Mosman and surrounding suburbs (Cremorne, Neutral Bay) boast well established gardens and prestigious views.

Turramurra
The leafy North Shore is also well set up for education with many well established schools with impeccable reputations mixing it up with a variety of good public schools as well as having the SAN (Sydney Adventist Hospital) close by in Wahroonga. Turramurra is a suburb dotted with parks and reserves, as well as boasting larger blocks with enough room for swimming pools and play areas. The North Shore is serviced by both buses and trains, making it an easy commute to Chatswood, North Sydney and the City.

Belrose
A
nother suburb that is perfect for families, Belrose is close to the natural beauty of Kuringai National Park, Lane Cove Park and is a 15 minute drive from stunning Pittwater as well as Mona Vale and Narrabeen beaches. Right next door is Terrey Hills, with more education options than you can point a child at – from Davidson High School, Kamaroi Rudolf Steiner School, to the German International School and many in-between! Closest hospital is 20 minutes away in Mona Vale and while public transport is limited to buses, the City is a surprising 45 minutes away by car.
