Where is it?
The suburb of Newport is located at the foot of the Barrenjoey Peninsula and is the last suburb before Barrenjoey Road heads up to Bilgola Plateau – locally known as The Bends, a peak hour bottleneck of single lane road topped with a four-way roundabout. Newport started life as a beachside holiday destination that was service by a ferry from Circular Quay and continued to be an outpost after the Harbour Bridge was opened. Even as late as the early 1960’s Newport was without mains water or sewage.

What’s the vibe?
While the Newport market is not breaking any records, it shows a steady upward inclination and an increase in buyer interest with above average visits per property, placing it in a high demand category. The fact that it is situated on the city side of the The Bends means that it tends to be seen as an easier commute to the four closets business centres – The City, North Sydney, Chatswood and Ryde and is serviced by regular and express bus services to the City. Newport has a popular surf beach, good public infrastructure such as parks, and a library and a vibrant shopping precinct including two of the major supermarkets.

It is a 15 minute drive to Mona Vale Hospital.

What is Newport’s hidden secret?
While Newport Beach gets all the press with long sandy east-facing stretch of sandy beach and good surf swells, hidden Bungan Beach (south of Newport Beach), it faces slightly south east and on some days it can be very protected. Pack a picnic and enjoy this little natural gem surrounded by natural bush but keep an eye on those summer southerlys that can blow in.

Who lives there?
Newport is predominantly a family suburb with it’s healthy out-door lifestyle, iconic beach with safe sea-pool, and friendly cafe culture. Newport Primary School is renowned for it’s long running music programme which has been further developed at Pittwater High School. There are several sailing school and both Newport and Pittwater offer sailing as part of their sports curriculum.
It is also an attractive suburb for early retirees and those looking for a more relaxed lifestyle.

Buy, rent or invest?
In this, Newport has something for everyone. Given the steady rise in value and high interest in property,  purchasing a property for either capital gain or for rental return if you are investing both look like a safe bet.

Indicative median house price for a 3 bedroom house
